Zahiti: Calm situation in Mitrovica (indeksonline)
The situation in Mitrovica appears to be calm today, after yesterday’s clashes between the protesters and the police. KFOR and police forces have moved at “The park of peace.” Kosovo Police Information Official for Mitrovica region, Avni Zahiti, said for Indeksonline that security forces are ready to react to any situation, however he added that situation is currently calm. “Police and KFOR have not noticed any indications that would disturb peace, however they are in the state of emergency.

KFOR welcomed removal of the barricade at the bridge in Northern Mitrovica as a positive step which serves the reconciliation, but said in a handout that construction of the park is very symbolic and politically motivated. The handout further reads that KFOR will continue to contribute to safe environment at the bridge and that its units were present at the bridge, whereas KFOR remains ready to adjust its actions in any moment.

The Mayor of Mitrovica North Goran Rakic explained that the decision to remove the barricade in northern part of the town was disturbing for many, while for some it was unexpected, however he believes that for the most of citizens it is a good decision which leads toward the reinstating of trust between Serbs and Albanians.
