The Basic Court, Office of the Public Prosecutor, more than 23 ministries and agencies that did not operate in the north of Kosovo will soon become functional, said Minister without portfolio in the Kosovo government in charge for the dialogue with Belgrade, Edita Tahiri, reported Kosova pres daily.
The recent start of construction on Sunny Valley, the first big returnee settlement that the Serbian government plans to build in the northern Kosovo town of Zvecan, has caused outrage in Pristina.
The biggest problem of young people in northern Kosovo is unemployment, whereas 80 per cent of young people 15 to 30 years old wish to leave this part of Kosovo, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Youth Educational Club ‘Sinergy’ from Mitrovica North.
Other problems, beside the unemployment, listed by the young in northern Kosovo are domestic violence, poor educational system, poverty and criminal rate among the young people.
Decisions with relation to the destiny of “Trepča” cannot be brought unilaterally without taking into account the fact that its most important capacities are located on the territories of Serb-majority municipalities, said representatives of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija and Serb-majority municipalities, which have initiated a meeting that took place in the seat of the “Trepča” Mining and Metallurgic Complex in Zvečan/Zveçan.
Local councilors of Mitrovica North Municipality decided, at the extraordinary assembly session, to erect a monument to Duke Lazar Hrebeljanović in Mitrovica North, after what Kosovo Albanian and Kosovo Bosniak councilors left the session, expressing their dissatisfaction that the topic of Duke Lazar was discussed at all.
Graduates of the Pristina University with the seat in Mitrovica North can submit their documentation for verification of diplomas in the municipal administration building in Gračanica.
Students who graduated at this University after 2001 are eligible to apply for verification of diplomas, whereas Kosovo government’s Commission for Verification of Diplomas will decided about the certification.
Local self-governments will support the work of Regional Kosovo Police North with the goal of maintaining the peace and order, communicated the Office of the Mayor of Mitrovica North following yesterday’s meeting attended by the Mayor of Mitrovica North Goran Rakić, regional head of Kosovo Police operations Željko Bojić, Deputy Minister of the Interior Milan Radojević and Deputy Mayor of Zvečan/Zveçan Municipality Ivan Todosijević.
Representatives of Serbs in the north of Kosovo stated that the construction of 300 new houses will commence despite the opposition from authorities in Pristina. Head of the Zveçan/Zvečan provisional authority appointed by Belgrade, Ivan Todosijević, said that it is up to Pristina to demonstrate good will by granting construction permit for the houses. He said the foundation has already been laid and construction is expected to begin shortly. Furthermore, Todosijević accused the government in Pristina for failing to help the return of the Serb community to Kosovo.
Representatives of Serbs in the Kosovo parliament insist on withdrawal of the draft law on census from the parliamentary procedure because, according to them, conditions are not fulfilled yet for its realization.
Construction works in relation with three big projects funded by the European Union will kick off today in Mitrovica North, where cornerstones will be laid down at three locations.
