The Ghost of Greater Albania Won’t go Away (Balkan Insight)

The joint session of the Albanian and Kosovo governments in Tirana has generated a predictable firestorm over the pan-Albanian remarks made by some of the participants. Once again the spectre of Greater Albania is stalking the Balkans, Serbia in particular. Belgrade “won’t sit quietly while Greater Albania is created,” the Serbian Justice Minister growls. The Serbs are not alone in their complaints. Some in Albania criticise their own politicians for, as they see it, summoning up the ghost of Greater Albania for their own murky purposes.

The United States Embassy in Kosovo has announced through a statement that President Barack Obama has nominated Mr. Greg Delawie as the next Ambassador of the USA in Kosovo.

"The US Constitution requires the President to take the advice and consent of the US Senate before appointing ambassadors. Despite recent media reports in Kosovo, the Senate has not held a hearing or vote on his nomination", reads the announcement of the US Embassy in Pristina.

Large group of smugglers of migrants from Kosovo arrested (B92)

European police forces have dismantled a large international criminal network that smuggled irregular migrants to Western European countries for money. The announcement was made by Europol on Wednesday. In a Europol-coordinated operation, which involved the police services of several countries, 77 people of various nationalities were arrested "in Kosovo, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic, France and Germany," a Europol statement said. "The migrants typically traveled to Serbia on their own where they made contact with facilitators, who subsequently smuggled them into Hungary.

Serbia Takes Part in Balkan Summit in Kosovo (Balkan Insight)

A regional ministerial conference opened in Kosovo on Wednesday, bringing together the Foreign and Infrastructure ministers of Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

Along with regional decision makers, Johannes Hahn, the EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations, will also participate in the conference as well as Violeta Bulc, the European Commissioner for Transport, who will join via video link.

New Greek Government won’t recognize Kosovo (N1)

New Greek Government will follow the so far policy of non-recognition of self-declared independence of Kosovo, said Ambassador of Greece to Serbia, Konstantinos Ikonomidis. “As you know very well, Greece is one of five EU states that didn’t recognize self-declared independence of Kosovo and we pursue that policy,” said Ikonomidis in an interview to Belgrade-based daily Danas on the occasion of the National Day of Greece.
