O’Connell speaks about the idea of correction of the borders (RTK)
The British Ambassador to Kosovo Ruairi O’Connell has continued with his practice of responding to the questions of the citizens on the social network, Facebook. Asked about the recent idea of correction of the borders, he said the position of Britain with regards to borders has not changed.
“Why are you asking when you know the position of Britain. Our position has not changed since 2005,” O’Connell wrote.
Asked about visa liberalization, O’Connell replied that Kosovo should continue to show seriousness on combating organized crime. “This is a matter of Schengen states. Great Britain is not part of Schengen, therefore it is not on us to comment. Schengen states are clear that war against corruption and organized crime is important for them, therefore it is vital for Kosovo to continue to prove that it is serious, because this is the only way of convincing the Schengen states,” O’Connell replied.
He was also asked about the recent decision of the government to set tax on Serbia’s products. “In general, Kosovo should regulate relations with its neighbors. The very fact that we are speaking about tariffs tells us how important normalization of the relations between Kosovo and Serbia is. When Kosovo and Serbia manage to have normal bilateral relations as two independent countries, then things will be much easier for both countries. We would not even be discussing these matters. I think that it is important to continue to focus on major issues which Kosovo is demanding. Let us not forget that Kosovo is now moving towards two major processes, the one of the membership at INTERPOL and plans for transformation of the KSF,” O’Connell wrote.
