Vukcevic: FBI questioned a witness in case of Bytyqi brothers (Danas)
It is true that representatives of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were involved in the investigation into the murder of the three Bytyqi brothers, as well as in a questioning of a witness in one northern country, but nothing came out of it, a former prosecutor, Vladimir Vukcevic told Belgrade based daily Danas.
In connection to the statement of Jennifer Brush, former director of the State Office for the Balkans and US Deputy Ambassador to Belgrade, who said that she closely cooperated with the FBI in the search for witnesses to the 1999 killing of US citizens Agron, Mehmet and Ylli Bytyqi, Vukcevic says that it was just the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor, which he headed at the time, that came to the information in the investigation. He said that they have discussed it with the US Embassy in Serbia, who then informed the FBI.
- The FBI representatives asked us if they could interrogate the witness that we reached, and we agreed. So, examination of a witness was organised in one northern country, I cannot say in which. However, the witness was seeking benefits, that is, for the FBI to provide him with asylum in US, as he was already receiving various threats, which the Americans did not agree to, because, to say, he was close to the crimes. So, all that "fell into the water." I talked to Aleksandar Vucic about the whole investigation into the murder of the Bytyqi brothers, so he was informed of everything. I've talked about this before,'' Vukcevic points out for Danas daily.
Brush told Voice of America that witnesses were too scared to present evidence against Goran Radosavljevic Guri, a former commander of the Serbian Gendarmerie, a current member of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party. She noted that witnesses may no longer be in Serbia.
- While working at the US Embassy in Belgrade, we had an FBI representative who cooperated with people who dealt with war criminals, as well as with the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs and US investigators, because, above all, these three brothers are American citizens. Even at that time, we knew that the commander of the camp where the brothers were killed was Goran Radosavljevic Guri. We believe he have the order for the murders. Guri later, as I heard, founded a security company that also worked for the Democratic Party while in power- Brush said.
