Mustafa: Kosovo doesn’t need elections, it needs a solution (Telegrafi)
Isa Mustafa, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), writes on his Facebook account today: “Dear citizens, five months have passed since the agreement between the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative (NISMA), later joined by the Vetevendosje Movement, and our efforts to respect democratic procedures and as a parliamentarian majority to form the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo and the government. The decision of the Constitutional Court to not recognize the will of the majority in the Assembly and to give only the PDK the right to nominate a candidate for the Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly created a situation where the pre-election coalition led by the PDK has blocked the country, because lacking votes it is not resuming the inaugural session of the Assembly. On the other hand, the post-election coalition led by the LDK has enough votes but the [Constitutional] Court has denied it the right to nominate a candidate for the post of Assembly Speaker. All this time, we have tried to apply in our country standards of the democratic parliamentarian system where the parliamentarian majority decides. The country however has remained hostage of a decision by the Constitutional Court; meanwhile, the LDK and other partners of the post-election coalition have sought reasonable solutions and have respected the institutions. The people delivered their verdict in the June elections. No party or pre-election coalition has managed to win the majority and to form the institutions. The post-election coalition consisting of the LDK, AAK, NISMA and the agreement with Vetevendosje, has secured a majority in the assembly. With this majority we can form the government of the Republic of Kosovo and with the support of non-majority MPs we will have 2/3 in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. Our objective is to make positive changes in the governance of the country. This objective is dedicated to the people of the Republic of Kosovo and our international partners. Therefore, by respecting the power of the vote and the commitment of the LDK, AAK, NISMA and Vetevendosje and the will of non-majority parties, we can and should offer Kosovo a stable and efficient government. In the next couple of days, we will hold consultations with branches and bodies of the LDK as well as with our coalition partners in order to find a solution that will be acceptable for the majority and for Kosovo. The country doesn’t need elections, it needs a solution. This is why we should all reflect on the current situation”.
