Former French Minister of European Affairs and current member of the European Parliament (EP) Nathalie Loiseau said on Tuesday the Balkan region “was not at all ready” to join the European Union, as the bloc was not fit to take in those countries, the Paris France Inter reported as carried by BETA news agency.
Serbian Minister for European Integration, Jadranka Joksimovic said it is concerning that the European Parliament (EP) in no way commented on the fact that Albania clearly demonstrated intent to change borders in the region, B92 reports.
She added Serbian MPS should have done more to point this fact to their colleagues in the EP.
Members of the European Parliament adopted in Brussels a resolution in which it is estimated that Serbia has made progress in economic reforms, BETA news agency reports.
It has been stated it is crucial that tangible results are achieved in judicial reform, anti-corruption and media freedoms.
The European Parliament has also adopted six of the eight proposed amendments to the document compiled by European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia David McAllister.
The adopted resolution "welcomes Serbia's continued engagement on the road to joining the European Union."
The arrest of six Turkish nationals who lived in Kosovo and their extradition to Turkey, where they are accused by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has prompted a strong reaction in different EU circles.
Officials within the European Parliament and representatives of different organizations that handle human rights, have come out with appeals calling for the European Union to consider Kosovo as an ally of Erdogan’s Turkey and not as a country which aspires of becoming an EU member.
The European Parliament will hold today the first debate on the proposal of the European Commission for removal of visas for Kosovo. The European Commission will initially present its arguments, then the report which has to undergo Parliament procedures will be drafted. Despite the fact that majority of the European Parliament support removal of visas for Kosovo, the procedure to travel without visas this summer might not be reached.
