Reactions in the EU on the arrest of Turkish nationals in Kosovo (Independent Balkan News agency)

The arrest of six Turkish nationals who lived in Kosovo and their extradition to Turkey, where they are accused by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has prompted a strong reaction in different EU circles.

Officials within the European Parliament and representatives of different organizations that handle human rights, have come out with appeals calling for the European Union to consider Kosovo as an ally of Erdogan’s Turkey and not as a country which aspires of becoming an EU member.

CDHRF: Toksoy should not be extradited to Turkey (Koha)

The Kosovo-based Council for Defence of Human Rights and Freedoms (CDHRF) said Kosovo courts should decide against extradition of the Turkish national, Ugur Toksoy, to Turkey saying the request is politically motivated. Toksoy was arrested in Prizren and is accused by Turkish authorities of links to the Gulen movement. CDHRF said in a statement that if extradited, Toksoy is not likely to have a free and trial.

Ljajić: Turkey's relations with Kosovo and Albania worsened (NMagazin, RTV)

Serbian Minister of Trade Rasim Ljajić said yesterday in the show ''Pravi Ugao'' of the Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) that he does not know whether during the visit of President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Serbia, the topic of Kosovo was discussed.

"Turkey's relations with Kosovo and Albania are not as they were several years ago," said Ljajić for Radio-Television of Vojvodina, adding that the situation has changed drastically since the coup attempt in Turkey on July 15 last year.

Turkish ambassador: Gulen followers present in Kosovo too (Klan Kosova)

Turkey’s Ambassador to Kosovo, Kivilcim Kiliç, said today on the anniversary of the failed coup attempt in Turkey that members of Fethullah Gulen organization, considered responsible for the act, are in Kosovo. “Terrorist organization behind the coup in Turkey is present in Kosovo and 170 other world countries, through private schools and media”, Kilic said adding that the Turkish government would appreciated Kosovo’s assistance in fighting the organization.
