Orthodox chapel turned into public restroom; Bishop: Lack of basic civilization norms (InSerbia)

Recently renovated and cleaned cemetery chapel in Pristina was turned into a public restroom and garbage dump, and several orthodox graves are overgrown with weeds, said the Dioceses of Raska and Prizren.

Such a situation exists despite the fact that municipal community service is allegedly in charge of taking care of the cemetery and that a paid cemetery guard is provided, says the Diocese.

Mayor of Pristina and senior member of Vetevendosje Movement, Shpend Ahmeti, today while commenting on opposition’s possible joint election list, said he believes the leader of the list and candidate for prime minister should belong to Vetevendosje. He said that the next candidate for prime minister of Kosovo, should be Albin Kurti. "The key is with Vetevendosje and it shall review and decide on future steps as Vetevendosje is the only party that is growing,” Ahmeti said.

Ahmeti: Orthodox church, evidence of Milosevic’s goals (Koha)

Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti said in an interview for KTV on Wednesday that the Orthodox church in the yard of Pristina University must not be demolished but rather remain there as evidence of what former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic wanted to do in Kosovo. Ahmeti said the municipality of Pristina has not received any documentation for the church which was built by Milosevic’s regime. He said that Serbia does not want to recognize the state of Kosovo and that this is why they are not submitting the documents required for legalization.

The Mayor of Pristina, Shpend Ahmeti, who comes from the ranks of Self-determination movement said to RTK2 that issue of legalization the Church of Christ the Savior in Pristina is going to be dealt with by the court and added that this issue is more of a political nature. He also described recent urination of protesters in the church as indecent and ignorant.

Ahmeti: Scandalous that Dacic is Serbia’s foreign minister (Koha)

Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti responded to the statement of Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic regarding the decision of the Constitutional Court to temporarily suspend the agreement on the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities. Dacic called the decision “scandalous” while Ahmeti said that what is scandalous is the fact that “Milosevic’s right-hand man, Dacic, is today Serbia’s Foreign Minister.” “This dialogue continuing in an unjust way is scandalous,” said Ahmeti further.

Orthodox church at UP campus to be treated as special case (Koha)

The Orthodox Church on the campus of the University of Pristina (UP) will not be listed for demolition, even though no one has applied for its registration.  Although municipal officials earlier had declared that the church "Christ the Saviour", built in the 90s, will be treated as all other facilities without permission, on the grounds that it is politically sensitive case, now appears it takes time for making a decision.

Thaci: Joint meeting between Kosovo and FYROM governments soon (Kosovapress)

Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, said today in Pristina that it is not the position of the FYROM government that a group of Kosovars are responsible for the recent incident in Gushnica, but that it is rather the position of an individual official. Ahmeti made these remarks after meeting Hashim Thaci, the Principal Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo. Thaci told reporters that Kosovo appreciates Ahmeti’s role in the affirmation of Albanians in FYROM.

Ahmeti: Demolition is not a solution; we will work according to the law (RTK2)

Mayor of Pristina Shpend Ahmeti said there will be no discrimination, or privileges, in the process of legalization of buildings, including religious, such as the Temple of Christ the Savior, but also a number of mosques in the territory of the municipality.  When asked what kind of message Pristina would send to the displaced Serbs in case a temple of Christ the Saviour will be demolished, Mayor Shpend Ahmeti said that in this case he will only abide by the law. "We are not going to discriminate or favour the church, but we will work according to the law.
