UN chief condemns treatment of refugees at Hungarian border (FoNet, B92, Tanjug, TV Most)

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Wednesday he was shocked to see how refugees were treated at Hungary's border with Serbia.

Ban "underscored it is not acceptable," according to Tanjug.

He said that refugees and migrants in Europe should be treated with dignity and their human rights respected.

On Wednesday, Hungarian police fired tear gas and water cannons at refugees from the Middle East trying to reach Western Europe.

Ban Ki-moon: Islamic state threatens Kosovo (Blic)

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in his latest report expressed regret because of the slow pace of Kosovo's institutions in the formation of a Special court for crimes of so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), but also warned that "Islamic state" threatens Kosovo.

The report covers period from 16 April to 15 July this year, and was released at the eve of the UN Security Council session dedicated to Kosovo and Metohija, which will be held on 21 August.

SG Ban concerned with delays in establishment of special court (RTK)

In his recent quarterly report on Kosovo, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed concerns over delays in establishment of special court by the Kosovo Assembly which he said undermine Kosovo’s image and present lost opportunities to set an example of justice and accountability. The report covers the period between 16 April and 15 July and was sent to the members of the Security Council before the Kosovo Assembly approved the amendment paving way for establishment of special court.

Ban continues to act in line with UNSC Resolution 1244 (Dailies)

 

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will continue to act in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, while the matters of UNESCO membership are decided by UNESCO’s General Conference, Eri Kaneko of the Office of the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General told Tanjug on Tuesday.

Kaneko confirmed that Ban had received a letter from Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic regarding Kosovo’s efforts to become a UNESCO member.

Possible Kosovo membership in the UNESCO would not change the status of the Serbian cultural heritage which is located in that area, because legally it is ownership of the Serbian Orthodox Church. But Serbia would then have to initiate diplomatic struggle, in order to certify the precise formulation of the orthodox cultural heritage in that territory, referring to it as Serbian, said Darko Tanaskovic, Serbian Ambassador to UNESCO.

Ban: Kosovo to redouble efforts on establishment of special court (Koha)

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon on his quarterly report on Kosovo which will be reviews on 26 May, has welcomed the continuation of the Pristina – Belgrade dialogue and the reaching of agreement on judiciary, and stressed that one of the remaining crucial issues is the establishment of the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities.

BELGRADE - Cooperation between the OSCE and the UN, situation in Ukraine and the OSCE's role in solving that crisis were the topics of a meeting between OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

The meeting, also attended by OSCE Secretary General Lambero Zannier, was held ahead of a briefing Dacic is scheduled to hold before the UN Security Council concerning cooperation between the UN and the OSCE, the Serbian Foreign Ministry has stated.

UNSC to hold session on situation in Kosovo on Friday (Tanjug)

BELGRAD - The UN Security Council will on Friday hold a session on Kosovo to consider the latest report by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, during which Serbia's stands will be presented by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.

In his regular quarterly report on the work of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Ban called upon the Kosovo authorities to speed up the establishment of the specialist court for war crimes and to redouble their efforts in strengthening a broad public consensus around this issue.

Ban Ki-moon: To establish a court for war crimes (RTK2)

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a report on Kosovo that after the constitution of the government and Parliament should be established a special court for war crimes in Kosovo. "I call on political leaders from Kosovo to double the efforts and strengthen the broad public understanding and consensus on this issue, considering its importance for the future of Kosovo," reads the report.
