Jovanovic: Surrender of Kosovo and Metohija would open issues of Raska and Vojvodina (Danas, BETA)

Leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) Milos Jovanovic said that surrender of Kosovo and Metohija would soon open the issues of Raska district, south of central Serbia and Vojvodina province, BETA news agency reports.

He made these remarks at DSS gathering in Kraljevo town, adding the future generations would have to deal with geopolitical issues in this case, instead of with economy and development of Serbia.

“Frozen conflict situation should be maintained, which means there is no final political solution at this moment,” Jovanovic underlined.

Media: Macron to visit Serbia soon (Vecernje Novosti, Tanjug, B92)

French President Emanuel Macron should visit Serbia in the next couple of weeks, while a precise date should be known soon, Serbian media report.

This was stated by French Ambassador in Belgrade Frederic Mondoloni.

“I work hard on agreements with Belgrade regarding the new date, and I hope to propose a concrete date soon. I expect the visit to take place in the coming weeks,” Mondoloni told Vecernje Novosti daily.

If there would be elections in Serbia, campaign to start after Statehood Day? (Prva TV)

If Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic decides that extraordinary elections would be held on 31 March, they would be called for on 30 January, latest by 14 February, one day prior to Serbia’s Statehood Day, Prva TV reports this morning.

However, if a decision is to have an election by mid-April, then they should be called for from 13th to 18th February. If elections are to take place, campaign according to this calculation, should start after Statehood Day (15 February), Prva TV continues, referring to the Serbian media reports.

Vucic: I hope, however, I am reserved towards signals on lifting taxes (Tanjug, Dnevnik, TV Pink)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic voiced today reservation towards signals from Pristina on the possible revocation of 100 percent tax imposed on goods from central Serbia, Tanjug news agency reports.

“I do not believe they would easily revoke the tax, but I hope they would do so,” Vucic told journalists in Davos.

He noted the pressure of the international community against the taxes is growing, but recalled that Pristina demonstrated many times it does not honour agreements, and his experience showed Albanian politicians cannot be trusted.

Jeremic on Vucic, Kosovo, change of borders (Danas, Der Standard)

Leader of Peoples’ Party Vuk Jeremic in an interview to Vienna-based Der Standard said that Serbia is no longer a democratic state but “a corrupted autocracy” in which the President of the Republic grabbed all leverages of power, while he secretly negotiates on redrawing the borders in the region, Danas daily reports.

RSF expects concrete measures from Serbian president (RSF, B92)

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) expects positive changes for press freedom in the biggest Balkan country, which aspires to join the European Union.

The organization said this in a press release issued after "a wide-ranging discussion with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic at the presidential palace in Belgrade" on Monday, and added:

Vucic: Haradinaj’s statement on taxes bad for entire region (Tanjug, RTS)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos said the statement of Ramush Haradinaj that Pristina will not lift taxes on goods from Serbia is bad news and bad signal not only for Serbia but for the entire region as well.

He repeated the plea for taxes to be revoked, adding there is nothing to talk about as long as taxes remain in force.

Serbia, Russia ink over 20 agreements on future cooperation (B92, Serbian media)

Serbia and Russia on Thursday signed over 20 agreements, memorandums, accords and protocols on future cooperation.

The documents were signed after a meeting of Serbian and Russian delegations headed by Presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Vladimir Putin, during the Russian leader's visit to Serbia on January 17.

Rosatom CEO Aleksei Likhachev and Serbian Minister for Innovations Nenad Popovic initialed an agreement on peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said during his visit to Serbia that "the Russian position on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija is known."

"We are in favor of a solution in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244," Putin, whose country does not recognize the unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence made by ethnic Albanians in 2008, said in Belgrade on Wednesday.
