Police in Kosovo stop driver with explosives (AP)

Kosovo police say they have foiled an apparent attempt to detonate a car filled with explosive material in the capital Pristina.

Police spokesman Baki Kelani said the driver of the car has been arrested and questioned. He said police acted on intelligence and stopped the suspect late Thursday as he drove toward an area where most Western embassies are located, including the United States Embassy.

Kelani said the car had Serbia-issued license plates and that the driver has a Serbian passport, but did not disclose his ethnicity or religion.

Parliament Approves New Govt in Kosovo (Associated Press)

Legislators approved a new coalition government in Kosovo on Tuesday, including the first prime minister who was not involved with the insurgents who fought for the territory's independence from Serbia.

A general election was held in Kosovo June 8, but bickering among political rivals had prevented the formation of a new government until Tuesday's 65 percent vote of approval.

Kosovo athletes start training for Rio Olympics (AP)

A week after gaining provisional recognition from the IOC, Kosovo is already preparing in earnest for the 2016 Olympics.

Swimmers and table tennis players are in training as Kosovo gets ready to send an independent team to the games in Rio de Janeiro.

Memli Krasniqi, Kosovo's minister of culture, youth and sports, says "now our athletes will be able to represent their country, represent their flag and compete with their national anthem."

Ukraine to pull out most troops out of Kosovo (AP)

PRISTINA, Kosovo -- NATO in Kosovo says Ukraine will pull out most of its troops from its peacekeeping mission in the Balkan country by the end of the month.

The Ukrainian soldiers will be replaced by additional Hungarian peacekeepers, NATO said in statement Monday. Ukraine has some 160 soldiers serving in the NATO-led peacekeeping force known as KFOR and Hungary has over 200 troops. Some Ukrainian military staff will remain but the alliance did not specify how many.

Kosovo Police Arrest 40 Alleged Islamic Radicals (AP)

Kosovo police on Monday arrested at least 40 people in a major operation targeting Islamic radicals suspected of fighting alongside extremists in Iraq and Syria.

Spokesman Baki Kelani said weapons, ammunition and explosives were seized as hundreds of police officers and special police units raided 60 locations across Kosovo, including makeshift mosques believed to have served as recruiting centres.

Kosovo prosecutor suspects some killed for organs (AP)

A special European Union prosecutor says there are "compelling indications" that up to ten captives were killed to have their organs harvested for illegal trafficking during the 1998-99 Kosovo war.

However, American prosecutor Clint Williamson said Tuesday that the level of evidence is not yet sufficient to prosecute the alleged crimes.
