Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke yesterday over the phone with US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Wess Mitchell, BETA news agency reports.
The two officials discussed the situation in the region, in particular Belgrade-Pristina relations.
Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that the resignation of US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell was " bad news." As Dacic stated, Mitchell understood that the US should open a door to a compromise between Belgrade and Pristina.
"Clearly it's a curse posting. Whoever deals with us, has their political career ruined," Dacic told reporters in Belgrade. Dacic had also had a remark concerning the fate of the EU.
US Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchel told Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that the dialogue is the only way to normalize Belgrade-Pristina relations, the Serbian President’s cabinet said in a press release on Tuesday.
Speaking in a telephone conversation, Mitchel said that the crucial thing is to overcome tensions.
The press release added that they discussed the situation in the region, especially Belgrade-Pristina relations.
US Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchell pointed out at a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic that the United States is open to consider with its EU counterparts the proposal for Kosovo' solution to which Belgrade and Pristina would come up in the dialogue.
Wess Mitchell expressed the US support to the continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with the expectation that the process will bring a lasting political solution, reports RTS, quoting the Serbian Foreign Ministry announcement.
Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic told RTS that at this moment USA and Russia absolutely support the Brussels dialogue and are ready to accept a solution that is reached in the agreement. We are proposing peaceful and compromise solution for the future of Serbia, Dacic added.

Previously a press statement was issued in which the EU High Representative Mogherini stressed that “what happened yesterday must not happen again.”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke yesterday over the phone with USA State Department Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs, Wess Mitchell, Serbian media reported referring to a press announcement posted on the President’s website.
“In a long and open talks, the President Vucic and USA official Mitchell exchanged stances over a brutal attack against the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Director, Marko Djuric, that happened on Monday in the north of Kosovo and Metohija,” the press statement reads.
“White House is in organizational chaos, therefore one should not expect there would be any new proposals or initiative in Washington when it comes to the Balkan issues, including the Kosovo issue,” Gregory Raymond, International Relations Professor from Boise University told Danas daily.
According to Raymond it never occurred in a modern American history to have more unfilled places in the government, including ambassadors in states where USA presence is needed, nor have so many people left their positions, either due to corruption or frustration.
