Special Prosecutor Jack Smith could soon raise the first indictments against perpetrators of war crimes during the Kosovo conflict, however, the Hague does not want to reveal the date when this could happen, RTS reports.

Chief Prosecutor at Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor's Office Jack Smith, on his first visit to Kosovo, attended a series of meetings with international and Kosovo officials, reported all media.

Smith met yesterday with UNMIK chief Zahir Tanin and talked about cooperation, reported RTV Puls.

Chief Prosecutor of the Special Court for KLA crimes, Jack Smith pays his first visit in Kosovo, his spokesperson Christopher Bennett said, BETA news agency reported.

In a brief statement sent to the media it was said, that Smith “would take part in a series of meetings with international and Kosovo officials.”

“During the visit, Smith would meet heads of international organizations, representatives of EU member states, Kosovo Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri and high officials of the Ministry of Justice,” the statement added.

Specialist Prosecutor Jack Smith on Tuesday signed a solemn declaration, swearing to exercise his functions independently, impartially and conscientiously, the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.

Smith was selected for the position in May 2018 under procedures organised by the European Union and appointed by EULEX Head of Mission, Alexandra Papadopoulou, it added.
