Thaci: I was congratulated by the opposition as well (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s President-elect, Hashim Thaci, during an interview with TV Dukagjini today said that after being elected as Kosovo president, he received congratulations also from the opposition MPs. Thaci also reiterated his call for dialogue between the political parties in order to overcome the current crisis as soon as possible. In regards to opposition’s address to Constitutional Court about presidential election, Thaci said the opposition did the right thing if they thought there are elements to be addressed by this Court.

AAK: Creation of Kosovo army, hostage to political deals (Telegrafi)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) said in a statement that the failure of Kosovo institutions to establish Kosovo Armed Forces (KAF) is a result of the “incapability and negligence” of the government. The AAK considers that unnecessary delays in the establishment of armed forces are “completely unacceptable” and that the issue deserves to be treated as a strategic priority.

Officials from Kosovo opposition parties are committed to continue opposing the agreement on the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities and the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro. Vetevendosje MP Albulena Haxhiu told Telegrafi that the protest against the agreements has entered its seventh month and it has almost been three months since the opposition also began demanding the resignation of the government.

Phone app to report sexual harassment launched in Kosovo (Telegrafi)

Kosovo Women's Network, Kosovo Open Data and Girl's Coding Kosovo, launched a smart phone app yesterday called EcShlire (Walk Freely) through which people will be able to report sexual harassment in Kosovo. The civil society activist Igballe Rugova said the idea came after a report published a few days ago by the Kosovo Women's Network stated that around 48 percent of Kosovo citizens have experienced sexual harassment but the number of those who report it to the relevant authorities is quite low.

CDHRF: No provocations on the day of the election of the President of Kosovo! (Telegrafi)

Caushi: Vetevendosje did not burn the cars, attacks are not unexpected (Telegrafi)

Vetevendosje Deputy Leader, Driton Caushi, told RTV Dukagjini today that an increasing number of people are joining the protest organized by the joint opposition in downtown Pristina. Asked to comment on the attacks against the vehicles of two government ministers, Caushi said the Vetevendosje Movement has nothing to do with the attacks. “However, such attacks are not unexpected given the aggressiveness of the government vis-à-vis the opposition and the people of Kosovo,” he added.

Zemaj: Early elections to be announced on 7 March (Telegrafi.com)

Kosovo Assembly MP from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), who is also member of the Assembly Committee for Legislation, Mandate and Immunities, Armend Zemaj, said that he would not vote Hashim Thaci for the president of Kosovo. He also stated during today’s meeting of the Committee, that Kosovo will announce early elections on 7 March. The Committee gave the green light to four draft laws foreseen to be discussed at this meeting.
