US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland is expected to pay a visit to Kosovo on 12 and 13 July, reported KTV quoting its sources. Nuland will meet President Atifete Jahjaga, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci. Her visit is expected to be decisive in convincing Kosovo Assembly MPs to endorse constitutional changes paving way for establishment of specialist chambers. According to KTV, government of Kosovo is most likely to resubmit draft amendments to the Assembly following Nuland’s visit.

On the International Gun Destruction Day, 9 July, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and European Union will assist Kosovo authorities in destroying about 2,000 light and small arms. The event will be organised by Kosovo Police and will take place at the Janjeva mine.

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Isa Mustafa met today with United States Congressman Elliot Engel in Pristina and discussed on-going processes in Kosovo, reforms being made by the Kosovo government, the implementation of international obligations and Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic prospects. Mustafa thanked Engel and the United States administration for their continuous support for Kosovo. Mustafa and Engel also discussed on the creation of the specialist chambers and their importance for Kosovo.

The news site reports that the social network Facebook is deleting the accounts of users in the Balkans that use this network to promote religion and other destabilizing missions. The social network is targeting specifically religious clerics and promoters of radical beliefs in the Balkans. Over the last couple of days, the network has deleted the accounts of several such users in Kosovo, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and in some European countries.

A Kosovo Assembly commission is preparing amendments to the draft law on guns which aims at a greater control over gun possession in Kosovo. Nuredin Ibishi, MP and member of the commission, said the number of homicides in Kosovo is an indicator of the high illegal arm possession. “It is unacceptable for the people to continue owning illegal weapons”, Ibishi said.

The United States Navy Secretary, Ray Mabus, is visiting Kosovo today as part of a Balkans tour. Mabus told reporters in Pristina that even though Kosovo doesn’t have a sea, the U.S. Marines will contribute through different seminars and trainings in Kosovo. “Our army will be committed to cooperating with the Kosovo Security Force. Our marines are outstanding soldiers,” Mabus said.

Kosovo Police and OSCE mission in Kosovo are hosts to a regional conference in Pristina that is to take place today. The conference is about community policing and efficient use of security forums in communities. International community policing and public safety experts will share their experiences with representatives from Belgrade, Podgorica, Pristina, Skopje, Tirana and Zagreb as well as representatives of institutions and civil society.

The Pristina-based Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms (CDHRF) reacted today against the demolition of the surrounding walls of the future Catholic cemetery in the village of Llapushnik. The CDHRF calls for a quick investigation into the incident and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. “The CDHRF hopes that this incident will not impact the good relations between followers of different religious in Kosovo and that we will have further progress of inter-religious tolerance in Kosovo,” the reaction noted.

The Alliance of the Youths of Kosovo (ARK), the youth forum of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), issued a reaction today against the “unjust and meaningless detention” of their party leader Ramush Haradinaj by the Slovenian authorities. “We have decided to undertake radical actions that can result in unusual circumstances in the country. This is not what we want, but it is the only solution that is being imposed on us.

The Vetevendosje Movement through a press release announced that they will support tomorrow's protest organized by the  KLA War Associations against the establishment of the special court. "The establishment of the special court, in addition to creating a parallel  justice system in Kosovo, tends to distort the historical truth, judging our fight for freedom. The special court, created specially for the members of the KLA, presents selective and one-sided justice.
