Still not known if Kosovo Assembly will break for summer (Kosovapress)

August is normally the time when Kosovo Assembly breaks for one month for summer holidays. It is not known though whether this will be the case this year because of events relating to the creation of the special court and legislative package for the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA). Officials at the Assembly and the office of the Speaker Kadri Veseli said the holidays issue has not being discussed. However, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa had said that the specialist chambers would be established before the Assembly breaks for summer.

National Investment Council will begin work this month (KosovaPress)

The first meeting of the National Council for Investment, which was set up a few days ago by the government, is expected to be held in late July. This Council will manage the process of financing of infrastructure projects in Kosovo. This was announced by the Minister of European Integration, Bekim Collaku. According to him, this body aims to ensure synergy between the different sources of funding, namely the budget, loans and grants. He stressed that the EU has allocated 1 billion euros to finance infrastructure projects.

Decision on the terrorism suspects, today (KosovaPress)

Decision on the five suspects for terrorism who were arrested close to Badovc lake, will be taken today. The hearing session was held yesterday, and the suspects were questioned by the trial judge. Bajram Tmava, lawyer to Milazim Haxhiaj said after the session that there is no single evidence that would implicate his client to the deeds that he is being charged. According to him, his client is a devoted Muslim and he would not harm anyone.

Opposition walks out of Assembly session (Kosovapress)

Opposition parties MPs from Vetevendosje, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) walked out of today’s Assembly session in protest of the parliamentary commission’s proposal regarding the petition against increase of electricity price. Glauk Konjufca from Vetevendosje said the commission dropped two items from the petition while Donika Kadaj-Bujupi said she was not permitted to take the floor and raise concerns about the issue.

Mustafa: Constitutional amendments to be sent to Assembly soon (KosovaPress)

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, said today that the constitutional amendments that enable the establishment of the special court will soon be sent again to the Assembly. He said that it is the free will of the MPs to vote however they prefer, but called on them to vote in favor for the establishment of special court. Mustafa said Kosovo should be ready to fulfill its international obligations and that he would try to cooperate with the opposition on this issue.

Engel: Kosovo an example for promotion of interfaith tolerance (Kosovapress)

Eliot Engel, U.S. Congressman and Co-Head of the Commission for Foreign Affairs at the U.S. Congress, met today during his visit to Kosovo with the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Petrit Selimi and with the religious clerics of Kosovo. Deputy Foreign Minister Selimi together with the religious leaders and Initiative for Inter-religious Dialogue team, informed Congressman Engel on the success of the project of Kosovo’s public diplomacy on inter-faith dialogue.

Government to adopt amendments after Assembly discussions (Kosovapress)

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Isa Mustafa told his government today that following discussions by the MPs on the special court, there would be a break after which the government would meet again and adopt the necessary constitutional amendments. Mustafa also said that talks with Belgrade in Brussels would continue on Monday and that the focus is on the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities, the energy and the telecoms.
