Opposition demands the government to cease any activity related to special court (Koha)

The leaders of the opposition parties through an open letter addressed to the President Atifete Jahjaga, Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci, demanded the government of Kosovo to immediately cease any activity related to the special court. The letter stressed that the constitutional amendments for the establishment of the special court violate the constitutional provisions regarding the sovereignty of judiciary.

The leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, Visar Ymeri, told KosovaPress that the current government of Kosovo is no different from earlier ones in any way. “This government is bringing the special court to create a parallel system of justice in Kosovo,” Ymeri said. According to him, the special court puts into question the sovereignty of Kosovo. Ymeri added that the special court is directly sponsored by Serbia and Russia, and aims to install a logic of selective justice in Kosovo.

Citing a press release issued by Vetevendosje, Koha reports that at 12:00 p.m. today, the deadline to submit candidacies for the leader of Vetevendosje ended. With the expiration of this period, the General Election Commission (GEC) of  Vetevendosje found that there was only one declaration for candidacy submitted – that of Visar Ymeri. In accordance with the Statute and Rules of Internal Elections of Vetevendosje, the GEC announced that Visar Ymer is the only candidate who will continue in the internal elections.
