Veseli: Final election results first before we form Thaci 3 government (Kosovapress)

Kadri Veseli, deputy leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), said today his party is waiting for final election results before they proceed with forming the Thaci 3 government. Veseli made these remarks after meeting Anick Van Calster, Belgium’s ambassador to Bulgaria and accredited to Kosovo on non-residential basis. Veseli and Van Calster also talked about the situation in the northern part of Kosovo, with Veseli saying that there needs to be freedom of movement there.

Kuci: Candidacy for Assembly Speaker post hasn’t been discussed in PDK (Lajmi)

Hajredin Kuci, deputy leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), told Lajmi that the PDK has not discussed his candidacy for the post of Assembly Speaker. Zeri reported today that the PDK is considering proposing Kuci for the post. “This has not been discussed in the PDK,” Kuci was quoted as saying.

Thaci and Pacolli together again (Zeri)

Outgoing Prime Minister Hashim Thaci met on Wednesday with Behxhet Pacolli, leader of the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR), in a restaurant in Pristina. Pacolli was accompanied by his deputy, Mimoza Kusari-Lila. Thaci told reporters after the meeting that “this was a meeting between friends”, while Pacolli called it an ordinary meeting but left open the possibility of a coalition with Thaci’s Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) if the AKR manages to pass the election threshold.

Outgoing Prime Minister of Kosovo and leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Hashim Thaci said in an interview for Radio Free Europe that he will form the new government. He said his party’s victory in recent elections represents the will of the people and no one can overlook this fact. “I will manage the whole process as mandated by the President, in accordance with the Kosovo constitution and laws”, stressed Thaci.

In an interview for Radio Free Europe, outgoing Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said he will be the designate to form the new government because he represents the party that won the 8 June parliamentary elections. Thaci said after the certification of election results he would commence consultations with political parties that could join the new government. He ruled out the possibility of a government formed and led by the opposition.

Brussels-based correspondent Augustin Palokaj opines that as far as the future government of Kosovo is concerned, the only thing that the European Union is interested in is whether or not this government will continue dialogue with Serbia and if it will implement all agreements reached with Belgrade. Assembly Speaker blocks creation of an opposition government (Tribuna)

On the front page, the paper claims that the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has hired local and international lawyers to interpret the procedures for electing the Assembly Speaker and they concluded that the post can only go to someone from the winning party while the parliamentary groups can be created only once the Assembly is formed. The assessment dismisses arguments from the opposition bloc, which expressed its plan to join into a single parliamentary group so as to outvote the PDK and elect a Speaker from its own ranks.

No arrest, suspects or information about Pista killing (dailies)

All dailies report on the assassination of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) candidate for Parliament, Elvis Pista, who was gunned down by unknown assailants on Sunday morning in the town of Rahovec/Orahovac. Over 2,000 people attended the funeral on Sunday. The police have not arrested anyone in relation to the killing, but has offered €10,000 to anyone with information that can help resolve the case. The Basic Prosecution in Gjakove/Djakovica said it has some information about the case, but will not reveal anything until the verification process is completed.
