As announced, opposition parties – Vetevendosje, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) – boycotted today’s meeting of the Kosovo Assembly presidency. However, the other members of the presidency did set the dates for the upcoming Assembly sessions for 1 and 2 October. Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli said that the Assembly is the forum where opposition parties should voice their concerns. He said that the reporting of Prime Minister Isa Mustafa to the MPs on the recent agreements with Belgrade has been set aside due to Mustafa’s visit to New York.

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli in a meeting with Vatican’s apostolic delegate Juliusz Janusz spoke about relations between Kosovo and the Holy See. Archbishop Janusz said the Holy See recognizes the new reality in Kosovo and supports positive progress. The issue of Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO was also discussed and Archbishop Janusz said the Holy See has welcomed the joint letter of Kosovo religious communities urging the Vatican to support UNESCO bid.

The government of the Republic of Kosovo issued a press release condemning the violent acts conducted today by opposition MPs at the session of the Assembly, where the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, was briefing MPs and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo regarding the agreements reached in Brussels. “The Government of the Republic of Kosovo considers that everyone has an obligation to refrain from acts of violence and to avoid actions that exceed the democratic opposition format which harm the interests of the Republic of Kosovo.

Some opposition MPs threw eggs at Prime Minister Isa Mustafa as he was reporting to the Kosovo Assembly on the signing of the latest agreements reached with Serbia in Brussels.

Assembly Speaker, Kadri Veseli, interrupted the session for a ten minute break. Prior to the incident, Mustafa was speaking about the signing procedures of the agreements reached in Brussels.

The Kosovo Assembly Presidency decided today that the last assembly session, which was interrupted on Thursday, will resume on Tuesday. Prime Minister Isa Mustafa will brief MPs on the latest agreements reached in Brussels. Assembly President Kadri Veseli called on opposition MPs “not to stage a theatre in the assembly”. He also said the government should be more correct vis-à-vis the MPs and not ask for the postponement of Mustafa’s report two days before the session.

During the first autumn session meeting of the Assembly Chairmanship, the representatives of the opposition insisted on the possibility to abolish the agreements reached in Brussels between Pristina and Belgrade, while the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), was in favor of Prime Minister’s reporting on these agreements at one of the future session.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, will report on Thursday to the Assembly of Kosovo on the agreements reached between Pristina and Belgrade, in Brussels.

Assembly Speaker, Kadri Veseli, called on opposition parties for a debate at the Assembly of Kosovo. Veseli said that the behavior of the opposition during the today’s meeting of the Assembly Chairmanship was not serious and their position was unclear.

Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) parliamentary group has requested in the meeting of the Kosovo Assembly commission for legislation the review of border demarcation agreement with Montenegro and the one on Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities with Serbia. AAK’s member in the commission, Donika Kadaj-Bujupi said the government of Kosovo is doing everything to prevent the Assembly from ratifying the above agreements but stressed that the Constitution requires this.

Kosovo Assembly Speaker, Kadri Veseli, said during the “Building Albanian-Serb ties” conference held in Mitrovica that communication between Serbs and Albanians is the only way towards relaxation of the relations. Veseli stated that no major inter-ethnic problem occurred ever since Kosovo declared its independence in 2008,

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli and members of the Assembly presidency met today a US Congress delegation led by Senator Vern Buchanan and other members of the Democracy Partnership commission. The meeting focused on the current partnership between the US Congress and Kosovo Assembly and the US support to building political and legislative capacities in Kosovo. Senator Buchanan said the US support with continue and stressed that Kosovo needs a greater on economic development as one of the key factors in strengthening democracy.
