Mustafa: Formation of special court shows we support justice (RTK)

Kosovo Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, said today in his address to the Kosovo Assembly, that Kosovo must clarify allegations of crimes committed during and after the war. “Kosovo needs to act responsibly vis-à-vis the obligations it has assumed. Resubmitting the constitutional amendments [on the special court] protects Kosovo’s sovereignty. It will be damaging for Kosovo if this issue is decided according to the UN Security Council Resolution 1244,” Mustafa said.

The Kosovo assembly has not accepted a proposal to consider a draft resolution on alleged genocide by Yugoslav army and police forces against ethnic Albanians.

45 deputies on Monday voted in favour of including the draft in the agenda, 55 were against, while five abstained.

The initiative to adopt such a resolution came from the Self-Determination Movement, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, and the Initiative for the Future of Kosovo.

They believe that members of Serb security forces committed genocide against Albanians in the province during the last war.

Selimi accuses government of failing to establish Armed Forces (Koha)

Vetevendosje MP Rexhep Selimi accused the Kosovo government today over the constitutional amendments for the establishment of the Kosovo Armed Forces. During his address in the Assembly, Selimi said “a dirty game” is being played with the fate of the armed forces. “Knowing that the constitutional amendments require a double majority in the Assembly, knowing that the ruling majority does not have these votes and knowing that the Serbian List is against this, the question is why did the government submit the constitutional amendments in the first place? The goal of the government is clear.

Thaci confirms: Kosovo Assembly to vote on special court next week (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s Principal Deputy Prime Minister and Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader, Hashim Thaci, said today that next week the Kosovo government will submit to the Assembly the constitutional amendments for the formation of the special court. After a meeting of the PDK parliamentary group, Thaci said he was confident that the Assembly will vote in favor of the special court, “because this is for the good of Kosovo and its partnership with the international community”.

An unnamed source within the Kosovo government told the news site that the Kosovo Assembly will vote next Monday or Wednesday on the constitutional amendments that make way to the formation of the special court. According to the source, the government will submit the constitutional amendments to the Assembly this week.

PDK’s plan to establish the special court! (Gazeta Blic)

The news site reports that the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has developed a detailed plan on how to resubmit the constitutional amendments and to make sure that the Kosovo Assembly will adopt the special court. A source close to the process told Gazeta Blic that the constitutional amendment will most probably be resubmitted to the Assembly this week. “The Assembly will then meet on Friday to vote on the special court,” the source added. He also said that Prime Minister Isa Mustafa can call an extraordinary session of the Assembly.

Kosovo Police Director: Kosovo is targeted by religious extremism (Koha)

Kosovo Police Director, Shpend Maxhuni, said today during a brief to the Kosovo Assembly committee on security, that Kosovo is targeted by religious extremism. “Kosovo is neither a nest nor producer of extremism. It is a target of religious extremism,” Maxhuni said. He said that Kosovo’s authorities will investigate the activities of certain non-governmental organizations that operated in the post-war period. Maxhuni also said that according to the data of Kosovo Police, 300 persons from Kosovo are currently fighting in Syria.

According to the same source, the issue of the special court will be proceeded to the Assembly of Kosovo next week.
