Kosovo Police: We arrested 39 individuals yesterday (Indeksonline)

Kosovo Police has informed to have arrested 30 individuals in the territory of Kosovo, during the last 24 hours. The Police informed that the arrested are suspects for smuggling goods and individuals sought by the order of the Court for other criminal deeds. From the 39 arrested, 30 were sent to the detention center, until a further decision of the justice bodies.

Jahjaga: More women in decision-making positions (Koha)

During the opening ceremony of "Women in Kosovo’s Security Institutions" project, Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga expressed her support for all women and girls in uniform, who are part of judicial and security institutions in Kosovo. Jahjaga stated that the role and contribution of women is undeniable in building institutions and strengthening the rule of law.

There is no greater progress in resolving property disputes, even after 15 years of conflict in Kosovo, in which Serbs have been the majority among the injured parties.

Family Ivic from Caglavica, since 1999, was not able to come into the possession of their land. They said that Albanians two times have entered into the estate, since 2003; they had begun to build the hotel.

The family managed to return the possession and register the estate in the cadastre on their name.

In today’s editorial, the paper claims that while the recent awareness campaign launched by several NGOs may be effective, it will certainly not improve the rule of law situation in Kosovo. Kosovo’s model of rule of law has serious consequences on the stability of the country and is scaring off foreign investment. Above all, it is killing the citizens’ hope for an impartial justice. The new government should therefore treat the issue of rule of law as a top priority, suggests the paper.

Courage to investigate (Kosova Sot)

The front-page editorial of this daily notes that when Bernd Borchard became head of the EULEX mission, he raised hopes among Kosovars that things would move forward in fighting corruption and organized crime. However, EULEX members are aware that their work cannot do miracles. The miracle in Kosovo is destruction of corruption, handcuffing of criminals, and bringing in front of the justice those that are symbolically known to the opinion as “big fish.”

Syle Hoxhaj, Kosovo’s chief prosecutor, spoke today about functionalization of a new mechanism with which the State Prosecution would target the most serious cases, especially those of economic crime. Hoxhaj said that through this mechanism, they will also investigate well-known politicians and powerful economic companies, using the expression of one of the EULEX prosecutors, that they will target “the big fish.” He added that the mechanism is based on the strategic plan for inter-institutional cooperation in the war against organized crime and corruption.
