Journalists to gather in front of MISSING Monument in Gracanica (KIM Radio)

On the occasion of the International Press Freedom Day, May 3, Association of Journalists of Serbia in Kosovo will organize a gathering in front of an art installation MISSING in Gracanica to point out to the unresolved murders and kidnappings, attacks and pressure against journalists and the media, KIM Radio reports. Mogherini: Pressure on media increases, bloc ready to defend freedoms (N1)

On World Press Freedom Day, we celebrate the essential role of a free press not only as a conveyor of reliable and accurate news but as a pillar of democracy, Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative, said on Thursday.

The UN General Assembly declared May 3 to be World Press Freedom Day to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression stipulated under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

THE SECRETARY-GENERAL -- MESSAGE ON WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY 3 May 2015 Around the globe, journalists are attacked every day as they try to carry out their work. In the last year alone, 61 journalists were killed. Many more languish in jails without charges or any sign of due process, the victims of governments and others that prohibit free inquiry and use the power of the state to intimidate the press.
