North Kosovo mayors call for protection of Serbs (Tanjug)

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Representatives of four Serb-dominated municipalities in north Kosovo urged on Thursday the Kosovo police to fully engage in protecting Serbs and ensuring security for all citizens.

An extraordinary meeting was held in Kosovska Mitrovica on Thursday between representatives of four Serb-dominated municipalities in north Kosovo and regional police in the presence of the missions in charge of security in the province.

Drecun: Purpose of Albanian PM's visit called into question (Tanjug)

The chairman of the Serbian parliamentary committee on Kosovo-Metohija Milovan Drecun said on Thursday that the purpose of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama's visit to Belgrade, slated for October 22, has been called into question.

Speaking about the incident during the Serbia vs Albania soccer match, when a drone carrying a map of "Greater Albania" was flown into the stadium, Drecun said that Serbia, in addition to a strong demarche handed to the Albanian ambassador on Wednesday, needs to insist on an official apology from Tirana.

Remains of Serbs and Albanians exchanged (Tanjug)

Representatives of EULEX and the Serbian government's commission on missing persons have exchanged the remains of three Serbs and 12 ethnic Albanians, Veljko Odalovic, chairman of the Serbian commission, said on Tuesday.

The exchange of the remains was done at the Merdare administrative crossing between central Serbia and the province of Kosovo-Metohija on Monday, and Odalovic underscored that this was the first time that the victims of the 1999 conflict in Kosovo-Metohija were at the same time given and taken.

Djuric: Task force on return of displaced persons to Kosovo (Tanjug)

BELGRADE – Head of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo-Metohija (KiM) Marko Djuric said Monday that a task force composed of representatives of relevant local and international institutions would be set up to deal with the issue of returns of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to Serbia's southern province.

Nikolic: Serbia suitable country for OSCE chairmanship (Tanjug)

BELGRADE - Serbia is a suitable country for OSCE chairmanship at a time when the search for a solution to the problem in Ukraine is underway, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said in an interview for the Russian national television and expressed the wish for the solution to be found soon.

Ukraine is a friend to Serbia and it has not recognised the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija, Nikolic said in an interview broadcast by the Saturday news show on the Russia-24 channel.

For rule of law in Balkans - reduce sources of corruption (Tanjug)

BELGRADE - The road to democracy is difficult and challenging, and if the rule of law is to be fully established in Serbia, the sources of corruption need to be reduced and the judiciary put in order, said the participants of the conference on Freedom Barometer 2014.

The study has measured the degree of freedom in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Greece and Montenegro based on several criteria.

Defense is ready and we expect trial to begin soon (Tanjug, TV Most, Blic)

BELGRADE - Deputy leader of the Citizens’ Initiative SDP Ksenija Bozovic said Thursday that she expected the trial against the party leader Oliver Ivanovic to begin before the end of 2015, pointing out that his defense was fully prepared for the trial.

Bozovic told Tanjug that the defense had presented all evidence Oliver Ivanovic had and the names of his witnesses to the court within the statutory deadline, adding that she expected the trial to begin before year’s end.

Kosovo north still gets no money from EU, north Kosovo fund (Tanjug)

President of the Mitrovica North Municipal Assembly Ksenija Bozovic said Thursday that no municipality in northern Kosovo had yet received any money from the EU funds or from the ”fund for the north of Kosovo,“ which was being filled with duties collected at the Jarinje and Brnjak administrative crossings.

Bozovic told Tanjug that that the Assembly did not have any information about the money, except that they were aware that a commission was beign set up that should be deciding on its allocation.

EU expects full implementation of Brussels agreement (Tanjug, Politika, RTS)

BELGRADE - Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said on Wednesday the EU expected full implementation of the Brussels agreement in the next year and a new momentum to the political talks between Belgrade and Pristina to come as soon as possible in order to achieve further progress in the normalisation of their relations.

Significant effort has been invested to achieve the goal defined by the European Council as comperhensive normalisation, he told a news conference after the European Commission had presented its report on Serbia's progress.
