Thaci: I was congratulated by the opposition as well (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s President-elect, Hashim Thaci, during an interview with TV Dukagjini today said that after being elected as Kosovo president, he received congratulations also from the opposition MPs. Thaci also reiterated his call for dialogue between the political parties in order to overcome the current crisis as soon as possible. In regards to opposition’s address to Constitutional Court about presidential election, Thaci said the opposition did the right thing if they thought there are elements to be addressed by this Court.

The newly elected Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, in an interview with Voice of America said he will work with all political parties in Kosovo to overcome, what he called, differences between them. He added that his election, which was opposed by the opposition parties, was in accordance with Kosovo laws and Constitution, while denied having made agreements with the representatives of the Serb community in return for their vote.

Deputy President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Xhavit Haliti, from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), said that there is no reason for confrontation between the government and the opposition. Kosovo opposition continue to disrupt parliament by firing tear gas (The Telegraph)

Despite security checks at the entrance on Friday, Kosovo opposition lawmakers used tear gas again to prevent work in the Parliament and to pressure the government into renouncing deals with Serbia and Montenegro.

The session, delayed for about 50 minutes, was temporarily suspended on Friday after a tear gas canister was launched from opposition lawmakers' seats. A resumed session an hour later was suspended again for the same reason.

Kosovo Assembly approved a resolution condemning the recent decision by a Serbian court sentencing, in absentia, eight former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) members to sixteen years for an attack on Yugoslav Army troops in 1998. Two of the convicted persons, Anton Cuni and Rrustem Berisha, are Kosovo MPs. The voting took place under a cloud of tear gas released by the opposition MPs as the Kosovo Assembly President Kadri Veseli began to read the resolution text.
