Vjosa Osmani, member of Kosovo Parliament and member of the chairmanship of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), notes in an opinion piece that the reactivation of the Trepça mining complex requires relatively big investments. “The current government has done nothing to provide full support for investment opportunities in Trepça and throughout Kosovo to be implemented successfully… The legal situation concerning the Trepça mining complex is extremely complex. Dozen companies claim ownership or call themselves investors, and the management at Trepça has provided a clear overview and categorization of these claimants. On the other hand, the judiciary in Kosovo has declared moratorium on these requests and legal uncertainties remain. The bill on Trepça, proposed in Parliament following LDK’s request, is aimed at clarifying legal issues and can include a strategy for the revitalization of the enterprise. We owe this to Trepça miners, Mitrovica and we also owe it to Kosovo’s economic development. Trepça has always been special and that is why it deserves special treatment.”
