Political analyst Halil Matoshi argues in an opinion piece that by swearing in before the official flag of the Republic of Albania (which is viewed by Kosovars as their national flag), Shpend Ahmeti [new Pristina mayor] did not violate the law on symbols. “Because in the legal-procedural aspect, his swearing in was the same as the swearing in of mayors of Kosovo municipalities with Serb majority who did so before the flag of the Republic of Serbia. This proves that in the symbolic aspect, the state of Kosovo is acceptable neither for ethnic Albanians or Serbs, because everyone is dreaming about great national states, because everyone is hostage and victim to hyper-history,” Matoshi writes.
