Deputy Prime Minister for European Issues, Fatmir Besimi, stated that Macedonia will have joint embassies with Albania and Kosovo, if this kind of inter-diplomatic cooperation is welcomed by all the countries of the region. During the KTV Show Rubikon in Kosovo, Besimi denied Macedonia’s reach of such agreement with Serbia, because there was no official notification by the Foreign Ministry. Besimi stressed that such cooperation foresees use of the same facilities and not joint diplomacy. “It cannot be considered for Macedonia to have joint embassies with Serbia and Bulgaria and not with Albania and Kosovo, it is impossible… It would be prior with Kosovo and Albania, and if conditions determine it, with Bulgaria and Serbia, if we go with a joint regional approach,” stated Fatmir Besimi.

The initiative for joint embassies of Balkan countries, which induced hot debates of the opinion, was announced by Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Ivan Mrkic. He stated that Belgrade is close to reaching such agreements with Skopje and Podgorica. This initiative was confirmed also by Macedonia’s Prime Minister Gruevski, who stated that the background of joint diplomatic representations is financial and in no case political.
