Minister without portfolio in charge for Kosovo and Metohija Aeksandar Vulin held talks with the heads of districts in Serbia over the possibility for refurbishing schools infrastructure in Kosovo and Metohija, which operate in line with Serbia’s education system.

Following the meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of Justice Nikola Selakovic, Vulin said to journalists that they agreed that every possible effort is invested, in the course of current school year, that schools and kindergartens in Kosovo and Metohija are fully refurbished and standards for students and children in kindergartens in Kosovo and Metohija equalized with the one of their peers in Serbia proper. They also agreed to provide more scholarships for students at Pristina University with the seat in Kosovska Mitrovica.

Minister Selakovic said that assistance to schools in Kosovo and Metohija is a ‘mater of life’ and that number of children attending schools in Kosovo is much higher than in Serbia proper. “Only one school in Kosovo and Meothija, from those which we mentioned, has less than 100 students, in most cases schools are attended by 200,300, or 400 students. We have to whom to assist down there, and that is the future,” said Selakovic.

Refurbishing of around 40 elementary and secondary schools and eight kindergartens in Kosovo and Metohija is urgently needed.
