The European Union mission, EULEX, spends hundreds of millions from the EU taxpayers to contribute in the rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo. Some time ago, the chief prosecutor of this mission, spoke openly about the “big fish” of corruption and raised hopes among the citizens that abusing officials would face justice and their wealth would be confiscated. However, corrupted politicians and officials remain untouchable and key factors on decision-making.

Great expectations have not been fulfilled, and today, instead of drawing lessons from the mistakes, debate and energy have focused on minimization of EULEX competencies, as some kind of defense of corrupted statesmen from some powerful action of prosecutors and judges in the future months.

Currently, increase of EULEX’s efficiency is the only alternative, in order to reach progress on the war against corruption and organized crime. Everyone is admitting that Kosovo justice system is the most corrupted, still far from the wanted reform for a state of justice.
