Assembly of Kosovo is expected to discuss today approval of a draft law prohibiting citizens of Kosovo to participate in armed conflicts outside the territory of the country.

Approval of the law came as a need to sanction participation of Kosovo citizens in armed conflicts abroad after reported cases that tens of persons from Kosovo have taken part in the Syrian conflict.

The draft law stipulates that criminal acts will include joining or participating in a foreign army or police, participation in foreign paramilitary or parapolice formations, group or individual organisations, or in any type of armed conflict outside the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.

Provisions of this law are set to apply to any person that takes part, organises, recruits, funds, encourages, leads or trains armed persons or groups.

Sanctions for violating the law will range from 3 up to 15 years in prison.
