Albanian residents in the “Kodra e Minatoreve” neighbourhood in the north of Mitrovica have been facing another problem in the recent days as the transport service from the north to the south of the city has been cut off.

The residents asked for the municipality in the south to assist in the matter. Neighbourhood representative, Gani Hyseni, said Albanians living in the north face many problems but the lack of transport to the south is making their lives extremely difficult.

Hyseni said that the head of Kosovo Government administrative office in the north, Adriana Hodzic, told the concerned residents that the Ministry of Local Government Administration has stopped funding provision of transport services for the lack of money.

Hyseni warned that the decision will directly affect Albanian schoolchildren who travel to the south of the city to attend classes.

Deputy mayor of Mitrovica, Safet Kamberi, said he fully understands the concerns of the residents from the north and pledged to do everything in his power to resolve the problem. “I will contact MLGA representatives and ask them to have the transport continue. I will also ask other ministries to help resolve this problem and the municipality will also be engaged,” Kamberi said.
