Under the initiative of UN Women, a memorandum of understanding was signed in Gjakova/Djakovica between twenty institutions and organisations which address domestic violence in their activities.

The MoU, which also includes the Municipality of Gjakova, the city’s basic prosecution and court, Kosovo Police and many other institutions, is the first of its kind in Kosovo and aims at decreasing cases of domestic violence through concrete efforts and closer cooperation between the signing parties.

According to Flora Macula, director of UN Women in Kosovo, the memorandum aims to improve the situation regarding cases of domestic violence through three segments: prevention, treatment, and reintegration of victims of domestic violence.

Mayor of Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, expressed support for the initiative and stressed that a healthy society is a safe society for all but pointed out that such a level cannot be achieved without the functioning of all relevant mechanisms.
