The paper’s front-page editorial that three out of ten killings in the first quarter of the year happened in the city of Peja. “After law enforcement authorities failed to apprehend the perpetrators of these killings, members of parliament criticized the heads of security institutions. Interior Affairs Minister Bajram Rexhepi and Kosovo Police director Shpend Maxhuni tried to justify themselves in a briefing before the parliamentary committee on security, but they cannot avoid responsibility. There is growing insecurity in our country and the state’s efficiency in combating crime is on the decline … Kosovar society is increasingly exposed to negative phenomena and there is a growing tendency to resolve conflicts outside institutional mechanisms. This results in even more crimes and police seems incapable of preventing it.”
