“It is important that crimes committed against the non-Albanian population in Kosovo be tried in a third state, while the consolation prize would be the administrative center in Pristina,” Serbian Deputy War Crime Prosecutor Bruno Vekaric told RTS, “The special investigation team is about to finalize the investigation; they’ve collected materials and key locations in Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia have already been visited.”

“The establishment of the special court for war crimes in Kosovo will answer whatever wasn’t dealt with in the past,” said Vekaric, “We didn’t receive enough answers, and international justice seems to have avoided punishing the perpetrators. This court will provide answers to everything. Someone must be held accountable for the crimes,” said Vekaric.

He highlighted that negotiations are ongoing regarding how the court will look like. “While the previous courts were under the UN umbrella, this one will be under the EU,” explained Vekaric and added that territories of the former Yugoslavia and other states, such as Albania, are in question.

“We are supporting that and hope that we’ll get the final answer,” said Vekaric, “I doubt that everything will be transferred to Pristina. It is questionable whether witnesses would be willing to go there.”

“It is really not easy for Kosovo Albanians to decide on the court that would process them. That’s why the US interfered, which was initially supposed to exert pressure,” said Vekaric.
