For Serbia and Serbs to “swallow” the formation of the Armed Forces of Kosovo, which would have about 5000 active-duty soldiers and 3000 reservists, Hashim Thaci is planning to form a “Serbian Battalion” in the north which will have about 500 active-duty soldiers and as many reservists and was agreed by Belgrade and approved by Brussels and NATO.

A plan was made for the command staff of the “Serbian battalion”, which would lead one colonel and two lieutenant colonel. The training would be conducted by KFOR. A battalion would be under the command of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence of Kosovo in Pristina.

The announced formation of the Kosovo army concerns Serbs throughout Kosovo because it is believed that Thaci’s soldiers will soon hit Mitrovica/Mitrovice, Zubin Potok, Leposavic/Leposaviq and Zvecan/Zveqan that Pristina police cannot control.

Leposavic/Leposaviq Municipal President Jablanović said that the Armed Forces of Kosovo are not envisioned by the Brussels agreement and that the Serbs are decisively against their formation. A similar warning came from the still current Prime Minister of Serbia and chief negotiator in Brussels, Ivica Dacic.

Edita denies

Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri denied that members of the Civil Defence in northern Kosovo will be integrated into the security forces of Kosovo. She pointed out that the Civil Protection in the north will soon be disbanded, and its members will be involved in tax administration, infrastructure, culture, etc.
