BELGRADE – Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic met on Thursday with UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia Irena Vojackova-Sollorano to discuss cooperation with the UN following the Donor Conference in Brussels.

Dacic stressed the importance of the implementation of existing programmes and projects for Serbia’s recovery from the May floods, the Foreign Ministry said.

He underscored that other segments of cooperation with the UN were also crucial to Serbia’s economic and social development, especially those projects that contribute to development goals.

Serbia is prepared to work with the UN to formulate the basic principles of the next UN Development Assistance Framework in order to settle long-standing development issues of importance for the population, Dacic pointed out.

The importance of regional cooperation in repairing the flood damage and building a flood defence system was also emphasised at the meeting, with the explanation that it would help establish a joint system of defence from natural disasters, the statement says.

The UN official informed Dacic about the steps the UN had taken after the Donor Conference in July to repair and rebuild homes in Obrenovac.

The UN is willing to work with the Serbian government to create a new strategy for sustainable development and a new UN Development Assistance Framework, she remarked.
