Mayors of Serbian-majority municipalities in northern Kosovo will meet tomorrow in North Mitrovica in order to address the current situation in that part of Kosovo and their positions on EULEX.

North Mitrovica Mayor Goran Rakic stated that the mayors will discuss their relations with EULEX in light of that mission’s operation in Zubin Potok/Zubin Potok Municipality and the pressure it is putting on that municipality’s incumbent mayor, Stevan Vulovic, and former mayor Slavisa Ristic. He went on to say that EULEX resorted to pressure on family members when they interrogated Vulovic’s and Ristic’s spouses.

Rakic stressed that this approach by EULEX is “understood by citizens as pressure on the Serbian community” and pointed out that such actions can violate the Brussels Agreement on the ground. “Everybody has to be aware of the consequences of the moves they make, including EULEX,” Rakic said.

Representatives of Zubin Potok/Zubin Potok Municipality yesterday said that unfounded accusations and threats, related to the arrest of the Mayor of Zubin Potok/Zubin Potok, are seriously jeopardizing the work of the Zubin Potok/Zubin Potok local assembly.

Kosovo Police tried to deliver an interrogation summons to Vulovic last month but they failed to hand it over since Vulovic was not at home. Some media in Kosovo reported that Vulovic is suspected of assisting in the escape of a Kosovo Serb from the police station in Zubin Potok/Zubin Potok last March.

It is not known at the moment whether Vulovic will take part in tomorrow’s meeting. Municipal officials informed the radio station that he has been on extended annual leave outside of Kosovo.
