OSCE supports cyber-crime and domestic violence prevention project

(RTK1)

To raise citizens’ awareness on cyber-crime and domestic violence cases, Kosovo Police has drafted a pilot project that was adopted by the Ministry of education while it is also being supported by the OSCE.

Cyber violence and the general violence are a concern. For this matter, OSCE supports such projects with the aim to make the society aware of it.

“The idea if that MEST certifies this project by the end of this year and integrates it as a course or mandatory subject, and to extend it to all pre-university schools in Kosovo in 2015,“ the OSCE National Programme Officer Rifat Marmullaku said.

Kosovo Police also has the same expectations. They believe that the project will be implemented by Kosovo schools as of 2015.

“The main goal of this strategy, of the overall community policing as a modern concept that is also used in democratic world, is to make police deal more with prevention of cases before they would actually happen and whose consequences would be suffered by the citizens,” said Mentor Cakolli, KP officer for crime and delinquency prevention.

Kosovo Police calls on citizens to report the cases they see or their rights are violated.

Following this meeting, PDK chair said that his party will come out with a concrete answer for the President next week, which will be in line with electoral will of June 8 elections.

After PDK, Jahjaga met with Vetëvendosje. Vetëvendosje Presidency member Visar Ymeri said that President Jahjaga again did not propose a solution for the current political deadlock.

In the meantime, Fatmir Limaj that led Nisma për Kosovën in the meeting with Jahjaga said that the Bloc has the solution, which does not include PDK.

President Jahjaga will be meeting LDK and AAK delegations on Thursday.

A press release issued by the Office of the President reads that Jahjaga requested from all leaders of the parliamentary political parties and Kosovo Assembly MPs to find a faster solution for building of the viable institutions in Kosovo, in order, as she said to avoid the country entering a deeper crisis or early elections.

Ombudsperson opposes ministry’s decision for confiscation of documents

(RTK1)

Drivers hesitate to say it in front of the cameras, but they complain about confiscation of their documents by police in cases when traffic fines are issued to them. However, this is done in compliance with a decision of the interior ministry. This action of rule of law bodies has also disturbed the Ombudsperson.

“Confiscation of ID card in offence cases is unacceptable. It is a document that people should carry with them at all times,” the Ombudsperson’s spokeswoman Majlinda Lulaj said.

Kosovo Police, on the other hand, justifies interior ministry’s decision as a preventive measure for traffic accidents.

Meanwhile, Roksana Qarri of the interior ministry’s media office said that the institution she represents will not make any pronouncement about this matter.
