The Chairman of the Committee of the Assembly of Serbia for Kosovo and Metohija, Milovan Drecun said there is a real fear that the scandal over corruption related to the EULEX mission will be suppressed, due to many interwoven interests of various countries in this mission in Kosovo.

He told SRNA agency that there have been reports that EULEX, due to pressure from the Albanian side and the political support of a centre of power, violated the principles of its mission and it is on the EU to investigate all the allegations because it is unacceptable that the mission which is to supervise the judicial system is so fundamentally corrupt, as claimed.

“I have a certain fear that it will not be clarified, that it will calm down and essential corruption in EULEX will not be solved. But we should hope that the EU will still have enough strength to clarify irregularities in its mission,” says Drecun.

He believes that it would be irresponsible of the EU to allow, because of the scandals that are now associated with EULEX, the mission to leave Kosovo.

“Because, whatever the EULEX is, it is the guarantee that the law will function and relate to those who are a minority community in relation to the Albanians,” said Drecun.

He said that what’s happening now around the EULEX is a special issue that should be seriously regarded, but he did not want to comment whether behind the frequent criticism of this mission is the intention to minimize the role of EULEX and the Albanian judiciary to take domination over the whole territory of Kosovo.

“Albanians could, at least those who want EULEX to leave, expect to benefit over this affair. I do not expect the mission to disband and its impact on Kosovo substantially to reduce. It would be too much irresponsible,” said Drecun.

He pointed out that, whatever will be the fate of EULEX in Kosovo, the state makes every effort that Justice in Kosovo is established in the manner agreed by the Brussels agreement and that Association/Community of Serbian municipalities will be formed soon.
