In the eve of a meeting between the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Josef Levi said to Tanjug that it will be a meeting between two prime ministers who have the same language.
Levi stressed that Vucic’s visit is important because it highlights a centuries-long friendship between Jewish and Serbian peoples, along with joint goals and challenges.
“We are in front of challenges related with the economic development, trade between Israel and Serbia, marking the anniversary of tragedy of Jews in Europe, but first of all it is about deepening of understanding of our strategic partnership and mutual respect. It is about an act of a friendly visit to a friendly state,” said Levi.
He stressed that Israel didn’t recognize Kosovo but has nothing against any nation in Balkans, and added that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is a model for settling problems. “Israel didn’t recognize independence of Kosovo, first of all due to our Middle East dimension, which is the prevailing reason. I think that carrying out the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is brave and courageous. That’s the model we salute and respect. The worst has passed in Balkans,” assessed Levi.
