Minister of Internal Affairs Skender Hyseni said in a meeting with EU ambassadors that visa liberalization for Kosovo would put under control and even end irregular migration. Invited by the head of EU Office in Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar, Minister Hyseni made a presentation regarding the recent irregular migration, violent extremism and also spoke about the recent protest in Pristina and the dismissal of the Minister of Communities and Returns, Aleksandar Jablanovic.

“It was a consensual message of all EU ambassadors that citizens of Kosovo that are illegally migrating to EU countries will not be provided asylum and, as a result, they will all be returned,” said Hyseni according to a press release of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Hyseni also said that economic reasons are the main reason that the people of Kosovo are deciding to reach the EU countries. He also urged the EU countries to shorten procedures for reviewing asylum seeking requests from Kosovo. Hyseni said Kosovo should not remain an isolated country and that a prompt decision to grant visa liberalization would be not only in the interest of Kosovo but also the EU countries that are experiencing the largest number of asylum seekers from Kosovo.
