EP Rapporteur for Kosovo Ulrike Lunacek has said that a report that found no evidence of corruption in EU’s mission in Kosovo, EULEX, “is only the first step.”

The Austrian MEP called for “a full investigation into the work of the EU rule of law mission.”

“The report is an important first step, but some questions remain unanswered,” Lunacek said on her website.

The report was submitted by Jean Paul Jacque, an independent expert appointed by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini “to review EULEX Kosovo mandate implementation with a focus on the handling of the corruption allegations.”

The document largely rejects the accusations that EULEX attempted to cover up corruption within its own ranks.

“I expect, as well as other MEPs from the Foreign Affairs Committee of the EP, that open questions will be clarified, and I demand full transparency,” wrote Lunacek.

She noted that she in the past repeatedly proposed a reform of EULEX similar to what has been suggested by Jacquet, and complained that Austria is not sending enough qualified staff to EULEX.
