Leader of the Serbian List in Kosovo, Aleksandar Jablanovic said that it would not be safe for him to visit Gjakova/Djakovica, western Kosovo, in answer to a summons by the local prosecutor’s office, despite considering himself to be innocent.

“Given the situation and the circumstances in my case at the moment, it is not safe for me to go to Djakovica, as I am exposed to a kind of lynching in the media, with the clear aim of discrediting my political role in Kosovo-Metohija,” Jablanovic said for TV Most. My role is “peaceful, with the task to bring about reconciliation, as far as I am able to, between the Serbs and Albanians,” he said.

“So far I have not received any guarantees from the competent authorities for my safe departure and stay in Djakovica. If I get the guarantees, I am ready to answer to the summons, because I have no problem proving my innocence, which is obvious,” said Jablanovic.

On May 12, the Prosecutor’s Office in Gjakova/Djakovica issued an indictment against Jablanovic, charging him with inciting national and religious hatred and summoned him to appear as a defendant on May 22, after he had publicly called attackers, on a group of displaced Serbs from Gjakova/Djakovica who had attempted to visit the town on Orthodox Christmas Eve, “savages”.
