Jahjaga: Serbia not to support illegal structures in Kosovo (Kosovapress)

Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, said that Serbia should stop supporting illegal structures in Kosovo, especially in the northern part of Kosovo. In addition she required that the citizens of Serb community to be helped to integrate into Kosovo’s social and institutional life. While talking about the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, Jahjaga highlighted the importance of the implementation of agreements reached and further engagement towards full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

Jahjaga made these comments during a meeting today with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous. Jahajga and Ladsous also discussed the current developments in Kosovo, Kosovo’s and the region’s European perspective as well as economic development and the creation of a good business climate to attract foreign investment.

A press release states that President Jahjaga hailed Kosovo’s partnership with international community stressing that the country is a joint success story of the people of Kosovo, its institutions and the international community.

President Jahjaga also stressed that Kosovo is consolidating its international presence by becoming an important factor of peace and stability not only in the region and a promoter of good neighbourhood. She said Kosovo’s acceptance in international institutions and organizations, particularly in the EU and UN, is very important.

President Jahjaga further briefed the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous about the commitment of Kosovo institutions to strengthen rule of law and fight against organised crime and corruption.

Speaking about implementation of international obligations in the field of justice, President Jahjaga said Kosovo is determined to fulfill its decision taken on by the majority of votes of the Kosovo Assembly for establishment of the Special Court as the only way to close a difficult chapter that does not try the fight of the people of Kosovo for freedom and independence.

At the same time, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous recognised the progress in Kosovo and expressed his interest about developments in Kosovo and the region.
