Health Centre in Mitrovica will face serious problems unless it integrates into the Kosovo system, because it can remain very quickly without drugs and medical supplies which mainly are from Serbia.

The situation is further exacerbated as of the 1st of June by the decision of the Government of Kosovo which says that this institution can be supplied with medicines and medical supplies only through humanitarian supplies or licensing-integration into Kosovo’s health system.

Director of the Health Centre Dr. Milan Ivanovic said that they were concerned about the difficulty of delivering drugs, as well as because of the decision made in Pristina, but that no matter what the circumstances will not be integrated into the Kosovo system.

He added that currently the only way to obtain medicines and other material was over company Farmalogist conect, the only company licensed in Kosovo.

– Until June 1, we were able to get medicines from Serbia and CEFTA products without paying taxes, while for foreign products taxes were paid in the amount of 10 to 26 per cent. However, as of June 1, even if the supplier pays all the taxes, those will not be delivered to Health Centre – said Ivanovic.

Even if we register in the Kosovo system, and obey all the decisions of the ministry in Pristina, or their drugs agency, we would have insurmountable difficulties, because in their registry of medicines there is significantly less medication than in Serbia.

The Office for Kosovo and Metohija does not see the reason for the lack of medicines and stressed that “there was never a temporary humanitarian engagement”.

“Health institutions in KiM are procured with medicines and medical supplies through RFZO (Serbian National Health Insurance Fund) and the agreement with Pristina which had issued licenses and certificates so that such goods have been exempted from all duties. This practice will continue and there is no reason for the shortage of medicines,” says the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
