Over 15 thousand people have signed a petition to accelerate the visa liberalization process for Kosovo, an activity that started a week ago by civil society, led by the Kosovo Foundation for Open Society (KFOS). The signatures coupled with 500 letters to the European Union representative in Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar and Kosovo Minister for European Integration, Bekim Collaku, through which the people are expressing their need for freedom of movement.
Visare Aliu from KFOS, who is also the coordinator of the campaign, said that the main purpose of this petition remains the direct engagement of citizens on the issue of free movement. “I cannot say that this petition will accomplish what we expect but this is our key to activate all citizens, be more dynamic about this because, after all, the issue of the free movement affects everyone,” she said. Aliu also thinks that visa liberalization would reduce the number of migrants from Kosovo.
