After the Executive Board of UNESCO at last week’s session in Paris by majority vote accepted Kosovo’s application for membership in the Organization for the protection of cultural heritage, both sides (Serbian and Kosovo) initiated lobbying for their aims, in real and in the virtual world. Yet the Kosovo side gave a good lesson …

If we look at the current efforts of the Serbian and Kosovo sides, at least those in the virtual world, we can just see that Kosovo side understood the task more responsibly. On Internet could be seen two completely different sites with seemingly the same purpose and subject matter – Serbian government website dedicated to Kosovo and Metohija and the site of Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs created to promote Kosovo’s entry into UNESCO.

“Website of Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs in general is modern, but the site of the Serbian government doesn’t have promotional character. The design that we see on the Serbian site is old, but it seems like it was made for internal use only and not for promotional purposes,” says Dragan Varagić, advisor for business use of the Internet.  “Website of the Kosovo ministry was created by the professionals and is modern, but solid team of professionals can make similar site in one day. From the point of design is well done and attractive, but from the point of content is poor,” he said.

Varagić adds that it will be very interesting to see how the Serbian side will react now and whether will engage professionals to reach the desired target group. He is of the opinion that the Serbian delegation will decide to invest more in lobbying through social networks.
