Several media cover today’s meeting that Kosovo President Hashim Thaci had with foreign ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions in Pristina. Thaci said Kosovo has one of the best Constitutions and one of the most advanced legal frameworks in Europe, “but we will keep making it even better in order to make sure that no one escapes justice”. “As President, I will encourage the amendment of existing laws and the drafting of new laws in order to fill in any possible gaps. Drafting a manual for judicial decisions, strengthening the transparency and accountability of the judiciary are some of the steps that Kosovo needs. News from the economy and the confirmation of positive trends are also very encouraging,” Thaci said. He said that in meetings with representatives of businesses, economic chambers and economic-financial institutions, it was noted that Kosovo has started utilizing its economic potential. “The start of implementation of the Stabilization/Association Agreement is one of the best news for Kosovo’s businesses. The European market is now open for Kosovo producers. The Republic of Kosovo has also adopted the National Plan for the Implementation of the SAA. This will be the key strategic document for implementing our European agenda. The document has 40 chapters that cover economic and political reforms envisaged by the SAA,” he added. Thaci said his priorities as President will include: the rule of law, economic development, regional cooperation, membership of NATO and EU. “There is no doubt that Kosovo has made significant progress in its eight years of statehood,” he said. Thaci added that Kosovo’s membership of the UEFA, ambitions for medals in the Olympic Games and the recommendation for visa liberalization are also very good news. Thaci also said that Kosovo is a factor of stability in the region and a model for cooperation and dialogue. “In the last couple of months, we have seen that there is no alternative to dialogue between parties. As President, I welcome every initiative, any round-table for dialogue between Kosovo’s political forces. At the same time, Kosovo is showing maturity in dialogue with its neighbors and beyond. I have supported dialogue with Serbia as the only way toward peace and stability in Kosovo. As President, I will continue supporting this process. I believe conditions are now ripe for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia to move on to another level. We need to reach a framework agreement that will pave way to the full reconciliation between the two states and nations … We have also concluded the demarcation processes with our other neighbors. We are building roads and highways that will bring us closer together and will ensure better cooperation and communication”.
