Office for Kosovo and Metohija strongly condemns the transfer of four convicts of Serbian nationality from detention centre in Mitrovica to prison near Podujevo/Podujevë, stating that the action brought into question the security of this people.

“This provocative move trample the fundamental principles of humanity and human rights of prisoners and directly has caused the decision of inmates in the Detention Centre in Kosovska Mitrovica to join the hunger strike, fearing that they could be transferred to a prison where only Albanians have served the sentence so far,” says the statement of the Office.

“We warn that such dangerous unilateral actions of Pristina are actually toying with human lives, and therefore is necessary that international bodies react which oversee the functioning of the judiciary in Kosovo and Metohija.”
